Just out in the journal Natural Hazards is the latest research into quantifying the dangers of rocky coasts. Here David Kennedy, Daniel Ierodiaconou, Adam Weir & Barbara Brighton have developed a method to calculate wave hazards on shore platforms. This index is a first in rocky coast hazard research. It utilises fundamental landscape characteristics such as platform elevation, and depth off the seaward edge combined with wave energy to calculate the hazard of waves over washing a platform surface.
